Lynebain Fishings

Location: Glen Deveron, Grampian Highlands
Property Type: Fishing, lodge weeks

Lynebain Fishings are situated in the unspoilt valley of Glen Deveron, on the edge of the Grampian Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, one hour’s drive north-west of Aberdeen and two hours south-east of Inverness.

The Beat offers excellent fishing for two rods with a very comfortable period farmhouse for up to six people by the river Deveron.

Lynebain is an ideal location for visitors to explore the unspoilt coastline of the Moray Firth, discover the Malt Whisky and Castle trails, hill walk, play golf or birdwatch.

The fishing at Lynebain, which is for two rods, consists of about 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) of continuous fishing, being 1.25 miles of both banks and 0.75 miles of single bank. There are 15 named pools, including the notable Mill Pool, which is considered one of the best salmon holding pools of the upper part of the River Deveron.

Fishing is by fly only. In addition to salmon, a good grilse run occurs from July onwards and Brown Trout offer exciting and challenging sport, especially on a dry fly in the early months of the season. The beat also catches the occasional Sea Trout.

This is a particularly beautiful and secluded glen. Part of the charm of Lynebain is the close proximity of Waterside Farmhouse to the fishings, enabling the keen fisherman to try some of the closer pools at any time of day. Access to the pools is entirely on foot and, to preserve the unspoilt environment, only limited bank clearance has been undertaken. As is typical of the upper reaches of a highland river, the fishing is a little more challenging than on some lower beats in more accessible locations.

Waterside is a period farmhouse, restored to a very high standard, on the edge of the river Deveron in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and has a commanding view over the fishing. Waterside offers very comfortable and well-equipped accommodation for up to six people in three twin bedded bedrooms, with two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen-dinning room and a sitting room.

Other facilities include a dishwasher, a washing machine, a tumble drier and television. It is a wonderful place to relax after a long day out on the river and is also equipped with a fixed outdoor barbeque.

Waterside is included with the fishing during the season (from the beginning of February to the end of October), and is let on a weekly basis, together with 2 rods. The owners reserve one “house rod” for themselves, but this rod will always give precedence to the let rods. This third rod will not be let. Please scroll down for further details.

The farmhouse is also available for rent outside the fishing season.

Guests should be aware that Waterside is accessed by a footbridge over the river (photo below) and is approximately 250 yards from the car parking. Alternatively, 4×4 vehicles may (at their own risk) cross the ford if the water is low enough.
