The farmland at South Essie extends in total to 37.16 hectares (91.83 acres) of which 36.50 hectares (90.20 acres) is IACS registered and mainly of arable quality. The remaining land area comprises rough areas, roads, yards and buildings. The land is classified by the James Hutton Institute as predominantly Class 3.2, this indicates the land is capable of producing a moderate range of crops including high yields of barley, oats and grass. The farm ranges in altitude from 30 to 40 metres above sea level with a southerly aspect. Slopes are gentle allowing easy field working. The farm has a mains water supply with field troughs around the holding. Fields range in size from 5 ½ to 14 acres and are generally rectangular or regular shapes which allow easy field working. Field boundaries are mainly post and wire fences of mixed condition with some in excellent condition and others in need of upgrading.

Cattle court (22.5m x 15.4m) - Infill cattle court bounded on three sides by the stone walls of the original steading and on the outer wall a concrete block wall with corrugated steel sheeting above. The roof has timber trusses clad with corrugated fibre cement roof sheeting. Part concrete floor in straw bedded court area and feed store, slatted court in central section with effluent tank below.
General purpose store / cattle court (26.6m x 11.0m) - Steel beams supporting timber truss roof clad with corrugated fibre cement roof. Walls clad with box profile steel sheeting above concrete block walls to 1.8m. Compacted earth floor. South gable wall recently reframed and clad.

The farm of South Essie is located approximately one mile north west of St Fergus village and four miles north of Peterhead. St Fergus has a village shop, pub, primary school and parish church. The nearby town of Peterhead is a famous fishing port and has all the facilities expected of the largest town in Aberdeenshire.
The fishing port of Fraserburgh is also nearby and offers a wide range of services with good shopping and leisure facilities.
