Restoring Gellyknowe Farmhouse has been a labour of love for the McConnell family.
Dating back to the late 1700s, the four-bedroomed property near Wood of Coldrain was lying derelict when Carol and Ross McConnell first saw it one glorious autumnal day in 2000.
Almost two decades later this lovely country house, with its garden, orchard and paddock, is one of Kinross-shire’s most desirable addresses.
Launched on the market by Bell Ingram at offers over £475,000, it has already attracted potential purchasers not only from Scotland, but also from further afield. Ross McConnell explained: “Carol and I saw a newspaper article about Gellyknowe and decided to drive out and take a look. At that point it was derelict, literally just the front, back and three gable walls were still standing. However, it was a gorgeous autumn day, the sun was shining on the fields and we could see it had enormous potential.”
With Ross, Carol their newborn baby and two older children living on site in a caravan, the restoration project began and the beautiful farmhouse now incorporates those original walls plus a traditionally constructed extension.
Ross said: “We wanted the build to be traditional and sympathetic to the existing building and our architect was very much in tune with that ethos. He used the original stonework as part of the design and with its slate roof, round turret, conservation skylights it is finished in a way that is complimentary to the original property.
