Woodland Carbon Code

The Woodland Carbon Code (WCC), which is administered by Scottish Forestry, is the quality assurance standard for woodland creation projects in the UK and generates independently verified carbon units. Backed by government, the forest industry and carbon market experts, the Code is unique in providing woodland carbon units right here in the UK.

To make a claim a landowner needs to go through three steps:

  1. Register the project (Bell Ingram can do this).

  2. Validate – this requires a third-party audit (e.g. by the Soil Association) and must be undertaken within two years of the planting. This confirms the project meets the WCC requirements.

  3. Verification – this requires a third-party audit and must be undertaken at year five and every 10 years thereafter. This confirms the project is sequestering the carbon as originally projected.
